Ribeira de Joao, found in the south east part of the island of Maio, is located 12km east of Vila do Maio. You can also reach Ribeira de Joao from Figueira da Horta, a lively village east of Villa do Maio. 

From the village, follow a footpath, past the wide ribeira, and you will find a stunning beach with turquoise water.
